On April 22 at 7 PM, the Pop-Rock, Jewish a cappella sensation SIX13 is coming to Neve Shalom as the featured entertainment for the Susy Schwartz Memorial Concert. With a high energy beat bop delivery and tremendous harmony using only their voices, the group's repertoire of Jewish songs ranges from hip-hop dance tracks to rock anthems, Shabbat zemirot, Israeli favorites, Yiddish songs and "Yeshivish" pop. Susy Schwartz was all about music, Israel and the Jewish people. Her community work focused youth education. She had boundless energy and a zest for life, so it is appropriate for us to honor her memory by featuring a group of entertainers whose infectious beat and effervescence capture her spirit so well. The group's camaraderie goes back to the members' college days. The six young college students from Binghamton, NY combined their love for music with their strong Jewish ties and SIX13 was formed. The group's name refers to the 613 mitzvot (commandments) that bind all Jews. After college, the sextet decided to take its music up to the professional level. Since then SIX13 has recorded four award-winning albums with over 20,000 CDs in circulation. They have become a huge hit on the Internet with over a million hits on You Tube. In addition, they have received multiple awards and toured worldwide, most recently to Israel.
The Susy Schwartz Memorial Scholarship Fund was created as a fitting memorial to Susy. Its goal is to raise money to give each Bar or Bat Mitzvah a .Passport to Israel.. Each child now receives a voucher for ($1,000) which may be redeemed towards any trip to Israel that has an educational component, taken between ninth grade and the end of college. High school students are also eligible to receive an additional ($1,000) from the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County.
We've passed the "100 Passports redeemed" mark now and intend to continue funding student trips to Israel that create memories and connections to last a lifetime. The annual Susy Schwartz Memorial Concert is the main avenue for this funding. So, in addition to attending this year's exciting "SIX13" performance on April 22, we urge you to consider becoming a Patron ($100) or Benefactor ($200) of the Concert. General admission is $20 for adults ($25 if purchased at the door), and $12 for children under 12. Free babysitting will once again be available by preregistration.
Purchase your concert tickets online from January 31 through April 18.
