Debbie Friedman – whose works are currently sung in more congregations than any other living composer - returns to Neve Shalom to help us celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our Susy Schwartz Memorial Concert.  Debbie thrilled a packed house here at Neve Shalom as one of our earliest artists in this annual series, and is a fitting choice to usher our successful program into its next decade.

ABOUT THE SUSY SCHWARTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/PASSPORT TO ISRAEL PROGRAM AND ANNUAL CONCERT:

The Concert provides the primary income for the Susy Schwartz Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was created as a tribute to our beloved Susy’s passion for Israel, music and  youth. The Fund provides each Neve Shalom Bar/Bat Mitzvah with a “Passport to Israel”,  a voucher for $1,000, which may be redeemed towards any trip to Israel that has an educational component, taken between ninth grade and the  end of college. High school students who use their Passport are also eligible to receive an additional sum from the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County. Since this much-imitated program’s inception in 1991, over 90 of our young people have redeemed their “passports.”  In 2009 alone the Fund assisted 10 students in participating in programs in Israel, including three of our young women currently completing the Conservative Movement’s prestigious full-year NATIV program. Perhaps you have read many of our students’ glowing accounts of their life-changing experiences, which have appeared in various issues of the Neve Shalom Bulletin.

Your generous support of the Susy Schwartz Memorial Concert enables Neve Shalom to continue meeting our goal:  to build the next generation of Jews who love Israel and are committed to its survival.  In recent years we’ve had a steady flow of youngsters applying for the funds. The stipend we provide typically makes a difference in a family’s ability to say “yes” to a child with an interest in studying in Israel.  So, in addition to attending Debbie Friedman’s performance on April 25, you are urged to consider becoming a Patron ($100) or Benefactor ($200) of the Concert.  General admission is $20 for adults ($25 if purchased at the door), and $12 for children under 12.  Free babysitting will once again be available by pre-registration. *Note that this year’s concert is at 3:00 PM.
